Messe Bremen transfers rights to ACTUATOR to VDE

16th trade fair on new actuators and drives has commenced

In Bremen, the 16th International Conference on New Actuators, ACTUATOR 2018, has started on Monday, June 25, accompanied by a trade fair. During the opening event at the traditional meeting point of the international actuator scene, the organizer announced that the fair had transferred the rights to the event to the technology association VDE. In 2020, VDE will make its debut as the fair's new organizer.

"The ACTUATOR fair has been the central forum for fostering drives based on intelligent materials and micro technologies as well as their application in all areas of electrical engineering and mechanical engineering," Dr. Hubert Borgmann of Messe Bremen, who organized the event for years, summarizes the success story. "Products and technologies that were introduced at the ACTUATOR fair have made history. This includes nowadays established applications of new actuators, used, for example, during fuel injection, for adaptive shock absorbers, nano positioning, precision mechanics, such as camera lenses, and other applications in miniaturized drives."

Borgmann will retire in the foreseeable future, hence the decision by Messe Bremen to hand on the responsibility for the ACTUATOR. "We are excited to have found such a competent event organizer in the VDE to take over the reins for this high-profile congress fair," says Hans Peter Schneider, Managing Director of Messe Bremen. "The ACTUATOR is in good hands." He hopes that the industry will continue to support the event at its future location in Darmstadt.

Within the VDE, the VDE/VDI Department for Microelectronics, Microsystems and Precision Engineering (VDE|GMM) will be responsible for organizing the biennial event. With 9,500 members, seven departments and 45 technical committees, the VDE|GMM plays an important role in the actuator scene. "Together with our motivated experts, we do not only maintain the status of the ACTUATOR. Our goal is to increase the global networking between scientists and engineers in the field of actuators." explains VDE|GMM Managing Director, Dr. Ronald Schnabel.

The ACTUATOR first opened its doors in 1988. This year it is hosted for the 16th time, which also marks the fair's 30th birthday. Starting today, Monday, June 25, until Wednesday, June 27, 280 experts and users will come together in the Congress Centrum Bremen and Messe Bremen to gather and exchange information.

The next ACTUATOR will take place from June 15-17, 2020 in Darmstadt. The scientific congress manager is Professor Dr.-Ing. Helmut F. Schlaak of the Darmstadt Technical University.
